A Week Full of Music and Surprises

By Patricia Carrion

Not too often I have the opportunity to hear such beautiful music and see great performances within one week. This past wednesday I attended the McCaw Hall, Opera House to see  La traviata, an amazing opera that had not been played in Seattle for 13 years, and finally, I had the opportunity to see. I admired the scenography for quite a long time, the costumes, make up, everything screamed romanticism. The story, the voices, are things that will stay in my mind and heart forever.

Later that same night, I went across the street to the Teatro Zinzanni and listened to Orchestra Zarabanda, one of the best orchestras here in Seattle that plays classic Son cubano.

And then, decided to end my week at the Jazz Alley with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra. The night started by having “Rumbeggae” salsa band do an interview for Actitud Latina TV show with Oscar Hernández, pianist and director of the orchestra. Then, the concert started, and how big would be my surprise when Oscar starts presenting the members of the band and suddenly, I hear Carlos Cascante’s name as one of the singers! Our very own Carlos, who has been singing in the Seattle area with his group Tumbao and now has joined the SHO. I could not be more proud of him. I was full with joy and delight, and that’s why I could not leave aside the opportunity to write this in my blog and share it with whoever will feel as happy and proud as I do.
